Top Heavy Petites - Style tips

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

So if like me you’ve got big boobs and little legs (I should really think of a better way to put that!). You’re a top heavy petite. There are some key points that you have to embrase and others that you have to avoid.

So here are the rules when it comes to finding tops.

Green Light - look for:

  • Fitted or tailored tops that skim your hips and emphasise the chest, making your petite torso look longer.
  • A wide low neckline. These sorts of neckline will stop the chest being so bulky and drawing attention to your face and giving you a longer looking neck.
  • Tailored or shaped t-shirt or corset type top, this will emphasise your bosom with out being too over the top giving your petite frame an elongated look.
  • If you need to keep warm, use a wrap cardigan instead of chunky knitwear it’ll give you a more slim line silhouette and gives the break in the neckline as mentioned above.

Amber light - Think twice before wearing the following:

  • Sleeveless t-shirt, especially if you have the old bingo wings!
  • Short sleeve with very tight sleeves, it will emphasise the tops of your arms and make your bust look bigger.
  • Puff sleeve, it will give you an illusion of big arms even if you don’t have them which will have a negative effect on your proportions.
  • Tops with frills, ruffles or pleating, this gives extra volume and will likely to make you look even bigger on top

Red Light - Don’t do it:

  • Long sleeve tops that are too long, even if it is in fashion, it will only make your arms look short in proportion to your body.
  • Baggy clothes like shapeless t-shirts and big jumpers, it will make body look a lot shorter.
  • Tight fitting clothes, it will show your love handles and not flatter your fantastic petite figure
  • High or round neck tops. They’ll make your breast look like one big mass and make you look even more top heavy.

Well that’s all the tips for the top. Let us know if you have any more to add to the mix.  Find out more petite clothing tips here.
